Premier kit for premiership team

Leicester Tigers RFC has added two Dennis Premier mowers to its fleet of grounds maintenance machinery.

Having first borrowed a Premier when the club's Welford Road pitch had been relaid, Head Groundsman Steve Packwood initially chose a 36in/910mm wide version of the machine.

Also available as a 30in/760mm model, the Premier's cut height can be precisely adjusted from 0.25-2.25in/6-57mm and the six-blade cylinder gives a clip rate of 90 cuts per yard/100 cuts per metre.

Powered by an electric start Kubota diesel engine, the use of red diesel is said to make the Premier 36in 80 per cent cheaper on fuel compared with a petrol engine.

The club - strong contenders for the Guinness Premiership this season - has now bought a second machine so that Packwood and his assistant, Tom Hoegger can use them together.
